ThermaRoot

ThermaRoot™ is a first-of-its-kind root-zone climate control system built for commercial greenhouses. Unlike conventional heating and cooling methods that target air temperature, ThermaRoot™ delivers heat or cooling directly at the root zone—where plant health, growth rate, and disease resistance are most affected.
The modular panels retrofit onto existing gutter systems and connect to hydronic, geo-exchange, or chilled-water loops. This reduces energy waste, improves crop uniformity, and can boost yields by 6–8%. The system also pairs with ‘GroSens,’ an optional add-on that streams root-zone data to greenhouse control platforms for predictive management and AI-driven optimization.

 Case Study: GreenSearch Inc.

Location: Leamington, Ontario
Crop: Peppers (trial environment)
System Type: Retrofit onto existing gutter infrastructure
Objective: Stabilize root-zone temperatures and assess impact on plant stress, disease, and energy use

✅ Project Overview

GreenSearch Inc., a greenhouse research and trial facility, partnered with Stratus to evaluate the performance of ThermaRoot™ in a controlled environment. The goal was to test the panel system on standard gutters and monitor improvements in root-zone temperature, climate efficiency, and plant health.

✅ Installation Details

  • Installed on existing suspended gutter system

  • Connected to hot water loop via manifold system

  • No structural changes required

  • Installation completed without production disruption

  • Root-zone sensors used for continuous monitoring

✅ Early Findings (Pilot Phase)

  • Temperature Stability: Root-zone fluctuations reduced by up to 5–6°C vs. control rows

  • Plant Stress Reduction: Lower wilting and faster recovery after extreme weather swings

  • Energy Efficiency: Reduced reliance on overhead heating

  • Pathogen Risk: Lower observed susceptibility to pythium/fusarium triggers

  • Integration Ready: Compatible with future API connection to climate controls
